719 Ride

This is not a SoCoVelo event but if you participate it will count as participating in an official club event.

Club member Al M has this to say about the event...

Just wanted to let the group know that there is a local grassroots ride called the 719 Ride coming up.   It is not a So Co Velo ride, but I thought some of you might be interested. It’s on July 19th (7/19), starts at 7:19am, and is 71.9 miles long if one does 5 loops. The ride is all in the hills of Mountain Shadows and Peregrine. As I mentioned it is a loop course with each loop being just over 14 miles and about 1800 feet of climbing. Five loops get you the 71.9 miles and 9000 feet of climbing. Of course you don’t have to do all 5 loops. You can do the amount that is best for you that day. A couple of semi crazy folks have even done more than 5 loops.

This ride is perfect for the Covid-19 situation we’re in now. First, you are your own aid station. The ride starts at the elementary school on Flying W and people park their cars on the street beside the school or in the parking lot.  I keep a cooler in the car with additional fluids and energy bars and stop each loop.  Additionally, the number of riders is small compared to rides like Elephant Rock - canceled for the year as of today - and so riders quickly space out.

This is the first time since the ride was organized that it falls on a weekend day. The cost is a whopping $7.19 so that the founder and organizer of the ride, Chris, can get insurance for the event. So give it a thought. Options are limited this year and this represents an opportunity for a ride of 14 or more miles with lots of climbing.

To enter just look up 719 Ride (https://719ride.com/) on your internet browser. I hope to see some of the group there!
